So I was all excited to get home from work at 8 p.m. last night and fire up the DVR for my second UW hockey game since the last time they were in the Frozen Four in 2006. And then they kicked the shit out of something call Rochester Institute of Technology. They won 8-1. Not much of a game. Bucky plays for the National Championship on Saturday. Good times. Should have put $10 on them in Vegas. Damn.
Hey Twinkie, where was the Fighting Sioux? According to my perusal of Yahoo!, they were busy agreeing to no longer exist. There, there buddy. I went through this with my high school (the Indians) in or around 1989. You will live. I personally think that the Fighting Sioux is less offensive than the Indians or especially the REDSKINS on the racism scale, because it is concentrating on one tribe, who is native to the area. I also saw that while William & Mary is allowed to keep the name "Tribe", they had to change their mascot from a Native American feather to a Griffin. Which doesn't make any sense at all.
In other, non-college hockey related news, the Brewers took advantage of a rather messed up system that screws young talented baseball players (and which the NFL should really look into, although the NFL screws older players) by signing Yo to a 6 year 42.5 million dollar deal (or a 5 year, 30 million dollar deal if he sucks/or wins a Cy Young). While they are paying him more than they need to this year (if you include the bonus $1.75 mil v. $450k), if he pitches anywhere near a number one starter, they are going to be coming out well for the rest of the deal. He certainly would've gotten a huge raise in arbitration for all three years, and a deal far surpassing that even if he is average (we are paying Wolf and Suppan $22.5 mil combined) for the final two years. This is muy similar to the Braun deal. GREAT job by the Crew. Now cue the elbow tendinitis and inner ear infections. Looking forward to seeing Brewer baseball this weekend. "Big" series against the Cards this weekend, with two games on National TV.
I laughed out loud when my first J.J. Hardy Twins highlight was him grounding into a double play. Get used to that Twins fans. (Then I looked up his stats and saw he is hitting .313 with 2HRs. Well fuck you, it won't last).
Finally, SIX DAYS until my working for $3.00/hr ends, and my pay gets bumped up to my usual $6/hr.

Crew swaps Hardy for Chuck Gomez
Wow, so apparently we won't be trading JJ Hardy for pitching, we'll be swapping him for salary relief. Hardy was just traded, straight up for Carlos Gomez of the Twins.
With this move, we get rid of Hardy's 4.56 million and will more than likely(read 99.9%) not re sign Cameron who would be due to make around 10 million. Gomez makes around a half million so we're basically dropping 14 million dollars in our salary for this year, I'm assuming that means we'll be adding an arm through free agency.
Big big early move, I am a bit amazed, not sure how to react to this. Our overall team speed just increased by about 37%

The whole Hardy thing
I think he's kind of being a bitch about the whole thing, like people are saying, when a player makes a move like the Brewers did, securing their financial future, doing what's best for themselves(in this case the whole team) then people look at it and say, well that's just a smart business move. When an organization does it, people look down on it like they are some sort of evil conglomerate trying to fuck everyone in the ass while they greedily steal money from anyone and everyone who steps into their path. As Juice added too, it's not like he's put himself in a position to not have this happen to him. Then he has the balls to say something like 'At first I felt OK. It would give me a chance to relax," said Hardy, who avoided arbitration this season by signing a one-year, $4.65 million deal in the winter. "But that's when my agent told me about the 20 days."'. Oh so you're willing to admit you're playing like shit, but it's ok because you have a different excuse now for why they sent you down?
I like Hardy, he's a good shortstop and the last two years he'd actually been hitting well, this year will probably not be indicative of the type of hitter he actually is, but business is business my friend and I hope we get a really good pitcher for you. That being said, I don't really like the way everyone pretty much knows now that we are locked into trading him this winter. Doesn't it seem like that would lower the asking price? Unless we get lucky and 2 or 3 teams start clamoring over him, if one team knows we want to move him, why wouldn't they just low ball us and say fuck you, play next year with 2 shortstops. I am slightly concerned...

Wow, big Brewers news
Holy cow! So I guess JJ Hardy has been sent down to Nashville and Alcides Escobar has been called up to the big leagues? That is the news according to JSOnline. Is this move indicative of an upcoming trade? There's been a lot of rumors since they put Hardy up on waivers, mostly involving the Red Sox, but he hasn't fully cleared yet, which is basically what it would take for the Sox to get a claim in on him.
At the same time Bill Castro has been fired as pitching coach and replaced the mother fuckin Boz, Chris Bosio. I have fond memories of him and Teddy Higuera tearing shit up late 80's, early 90's style. No idea if he's a good coach or not though, time will tell.
UPDATE: The axe just swung again as Bill Hall is being DFA, which, with no options left, means one of three things, he can be claimed by a team (haha no fucking way), he can accept a minor league assignment(most likely what will happen, I suggest the Timber Rattlers) or he will be outright released if he declines an assignment to the minors. So basically the same thing as two weeks ago, not really news. Also they called up some french guy to replace him. Oh non!
